The mission for total literacy was a programme that launched Kerala internationally to the pinnacle of progress in knowledge. Now, the constituency of Thaliparamba is witnessing another great movement fashioned in the same way as the literacy mission. E-dam is now laying the ground for total digital literacy. The internet, online activities, and smartphone-based life have become an indispensable part of modern life style. Astounding us, Information Technology is growing by leaps and bounds. Our lives are being revolutionised by technologies like AI. In its leap towards becoming a knowledge-economy, Kerala has almost realised the historic Digital Science Park, the first of its kind in India. Kerala, with its 35 million population, is first among those whose internet-use is high. Fifty-four percent of its population uses the internet. The number is more than the double of national average. And, the number of phone connections in the state is one billion more than its total population.
Aimed at equipping the ordinary people of Kerala to use digital technology and tools, the Public Digital Literacy is a programme executed under the combined leadership of Kerala Public Education Department, Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority, KITE - Kerala, and the Educational Committee - Thaliparamba Assembly Constituency. The programme was executed in the constituency as a model programme. It was inaugurated on 2 May 2023, by the Minister for Higher Education, Ms. R. Bindu under the presidentship of the Thaliparamba MLA Shri. M.V. Govindan Master. As a result of the programme, the Thaliparamba Assembly constituency became the first Legislative Assembly constituency to achieve total digital literacy.
